The Sheep Man's Floor
“Dance,” said the Sheep Man. “Yougottadance. Aslongasthemusicplays. Yougotta dance.”
This series was inspired by the Sheep Man of Dance Dance Dance by Haruki Murakami. The Sheep Man is described to be a mysterious guiding spirit and talks in a manner where his words run into each other which is reflected in the lack of space between his words.
The Sheep Man is said to be living in the minds of the characters, which could be alluded to the way the Sheep Man speaks. The absence of space can also denote an omnipresence of space. Thus he lies in the in-between and outside, all at the same time.
Towards the end of the novel, the Sheep Man disappears and leaves behind his office that con- sists of obscure paraphernalia. The Sheepman’s Floor is an attempt to recreate that space through both form and feeling.
